Bihar is India’s most flood-prone State, with 76% of the population in the north Bihar living under the recurring threat of flood devastation. According to some historical data, 16.5% of the total flood affected area in India is located in Bihar while 22.1% of the flood affected population in India lives in Bihar. About 68,800 square kilometers (26,600 sq. mi) out of total geographical area of 94,160 square kilometers (36,360 sq. mi) comprising 73.06% is flood affected. Floods in Bihar are a recurring disaster which on an annual basis destroys thousands of human lives apart from livestock and assets worth millions. BAUSS has actively participated during the year 2008, 2012, 2017 flood to serve the flood victims in northern Bihar.

In India several people die of cold every year. Poor people do not possess enough winter wear or blankets so that to cope up with the extreme cold, especially during the months of late December and entire January. Generally, the two States (Bihar & Uttar Pradesh) rank the highest in terms of casualties from cold wave every year. The reason for this could be the poor level of development and lack of shelters to the outdoor workers and farmers. BAUSS is executing winter relief projects with the intention to make available blankets/winter relief kits to those families who do not have sufficient means to cope up with cold during the winter season & to minimize the lives loss due to winter irrespective of caste and creed. We served more than 10,000 needy people.

Similarly, BAUSS have also shown its rigorous effort to support the earthquake victims of Nepal during the massive earthquake in the year 2015, more than 400 families served by BAUSS with dry ration, clothing, utensils etc.
